Accurate
The NX Tester can measure resistances
and capacitances with great accuracy. Not only is the NX Tester accurate, it
is also fast. The NX Tester can perform complete continuity and short
circuit testing on a 1024 test point wire harness in less than 5 seconds.
Circuit Resistance
The NX Tester measures every circuit in the wire harness and compares the
measurement to programmed thresholds to determine continuity and shorts.
While testing, the NX Tester displays the measured resistance and the
threshold value.
Resistors
Many wire harnesses contain discrete resistors. The NX Tester can measure
resistors with the following ranges and accuracy:
1 - 100 Ohms: +/- 1 Ohm
100 - 2 Meg Ohms: +/- 1%
Self Calibration
The NX Tester is self-calibrating, ensuring the precision of
resistance and capacitance measurements. Periodically, the NX Tester
measures internal precision resistors and capacitors whose known values
enable it to automatically maintain accurate calibration.
Capacitors
Some wire harnesses contain discrete capacitors. The NX Tester can measure
capacitors whose values range from 100 pF up to 500 uF with an accuracy of ±
5% to 20% based on capacitor type, ±10pF.
Reporting
The NX Tester makes accurate resistance measurements for each circuit in the
wire harness, and retains these values throughout the course of the test.
When testing is complete, the NX Tester can direct a report of test results
to Dynalab's Report Printer or to a serial port.
Secure
The NX System provides security in two very important ways:
-
Security through access control
-
Security through traceability
Key Controlled Access
The NX Tester is equipped with a key slot, accessible on the front panel.
This key slot accepts either a Supervisor Key or an Operator Key.
The Supervisor Key unlocks access to setup menus, permits program
termination, and activates the control port. The Supervisor Key may also
be used to satisfy a test program's requirement that a supervisor be
present to continue.
The Operator Key may be used to satisfy a test program's requirement that
an operator be present to continue. The Operator Key contains data storage
areas that can be programmed to contain the Operator's ID and other useful
data.
Program Identification Key Traceability
Every test program generated by the NX Editor has a program identification
code - this is an alphanumeric identifier that is associated with the test
program file. This code is visible on the NX Tester, so that it can be
compared with the code associated with the test file generated by the NX
Editor. This provides for traceability and assurance that the program
being executed on the NX Tester is the same version developed on the NX
Editor.
Reliable
Dynalab has established an excellent
reputation for manufacturing reliable test equipment. The NX System builds
on that tradition. Every aspect of the NX System has been designed with
reliability in mind.

Robust
ESD Protection
Electrostatic discharge poses a problem for any electronic equipment.
When human operators interact with wire harness components, it is
possible for static discharges to be transmitted from the operator to
the wire harness. The voltage can reach very high levels – several
thousand volts, and is conducted through the wire harness into the
tester. The NX Testers have been designed to withstand high levels of
static discharge without incident. This results in fewer disruptions
and a low likelihood of equipment damage. |

Durable
Memory Card
The NX Memory Card is a robust, durable design. It requires no internal
battery for operation.
Strong Industrial Enclosure
Each NX Tester is contained in a 18 gauge steel enclosure with a durable
powder coat finish.
Durable Buttons
Each of the four user interface buttons is made of durable ABS material -
the underlying switch mechanisms are designed for countless operations.
These are the same buttons and switches Dynalab has used for many years
with great success.
Robust Test Point Interface
Each test point board has two sets of 64 gold plated contacts designed to
mate with card edge connectors for the purpose of interfacing to external
test fixtures. This combination of gold plated contacts and card edge
connectors make for an extremely reliable interface - no pins to break or
bend, and no contact corrosion.
Indestructible Opto-isolated Control Port
The NX Tester has a control port that is used to operate external devices
such as a fixture clamp. The control port employs optical electronics to
isolate the tester from external control circuitry - this eliminates any
possibility of damage to the tester from external control circuitry.
Keys Uses Robust USB Connector System
The Supervisor and Operator keys employ the USB connector system - this is
a robust, reliable, industry-accepted design.
Flexible
Dynalab designed the NX System to be flexible so that it can easily
conform to a variety of manufacturing environments and needs.
Bar Code Scanning
The NX Tester can accept input from a bar code scanner for product or
operator identification.
Remote Display
Some wire harnesses are very large - 60 feet long or more. When working on
such a large wire harness, the NX Tester's display may not be easily read
from a distance. To solve this problem, the NX Tester can be equipped with
a large Remote Display that makes the display messages easily readable
from a distance.
Networking
Because many wire harness manufacturers have equipped their factories with
modern data networks, Dynalab designed the NX System to be networkable. NX
Testers can be optioned to connect to ethernet data networks for the
purpose of transferring test programs, collecting QC information,
collecting test process data, or communicating with a printer.
PC Display Enhancement Software(Available Mid
2008)
Display Enhancement Software enables a PC to function as an extended
display for the NX Tester. This provides enhanced graphical and textual
information during the progress of the test, such as larger easier to read
text messages, graphic pictures of connectors with error information, work
instructions, and visibility to all errors via a scrollable list.
Adaptable
The purpose of testing wire harnesses is to make sure that only good
product is shipped to customers. Wire harness manufacturers have developed
a variety of methods and schemes to ensure that only good product goes out
the door. Dynalab designed the NX System to be adaptable to a variety of
these methods to help manufacturers control the quality of their product.
Fixture Clamp Activation
Some manufacturers employ solenoid-actuated clamps on their test fixtures
to prevent removal of the wire harness from the fixture until the test has
completed. The NX Tester, equipped with a control port module, can be
programmed to automatically release a fixture clamp only when a wire
harness passes all tests.
Connector Stamp Activation
Some manufacturers employ a connector stamp to mark good wire harnesses.
The NX Tester, equipped with a control port module, can be programmed to
automatically activate a connector stamp only when a wire harness passes
all tests.
Label Printing
The NX Tester can be programmed to print a label every time a wire harness
passes all tests. This provides an excellent quality control mechanism to
ensure that only good wire harnesses receive labels. The NX System has
been designed to support printers from Zebra and Eltron.
Alarm Mode
The NX Tester can be programmed to enter an Alarm Mode whenever a wire
harness has been removed from the fixture before testing has completed.
The Alarm Mode aborts the test, sounds a continuous alarm, and displays a
message indicating early removal of the wire harness. This behavior
continues until an authorized person with a Supervisor Key disables the
Alarm Mode. The Alarm Mode cannot be disabled in any other way. This
provides an excellent method of ensuring that all wire harnesses are
completely tested.
Abort Restriction
The NX Tester can be programmed so that only authorized personnel with a
Supervisor Key may abort a test in progress.
Simple
Dynalab designed the NX System to be the most intuitive and easy to use
wiring harness testing solution available.
NX Tester: Simple User Interface
The NX Tester provides an easy to use interface consisting of 4 buttons.
The up and down buttons are used to scroll through menu selections, the
green button is used to select items, and the red button is used to escape
from the current menu or to abort the current operation.
NX Editor: Simple Programming
The NX Tester is programmed with the NX Editor software program. The NX
Editor uses no command language, but instead employs a powerful and easy
to use flow charting tool for test program development. Additionally,
describing the wire harness connections is done with straightforward
entries in a connections table.
So, programming the NX Tester is as easy as filling out a connections
table and building a flow chart.
