Titanium carbon nitride coated
blades for Komax machines |
|
|
Recent trials at one of our clients who
is processing silicone rubber insulation have shown an improved blade life of
between 40 and 50%*. It is expected that even better performance would
be seen when processing PVC insulations.
* Compared to the same blade in TiN |

Technical Stuff
Like the more usual
titanium nitride (TiN) coatings , the titanium
carbon nitride (TiCN) coating is crystalline in structure.
However, TiCN coatings tend to be
either a red/copper colour or more commonly a lilac/grey colour. Blades
supplied with this coating can sometimes be mistaken for an uncoated tool
steel blade that has become hot from grinding etc. The difference in terms
of surface hardness however is very clear.
Titanium carbon nitride
(TiCN) is a functional hard coating offering an optimal combination of
hardness, toughness and antifriction characteristics. TiCN is recommended
for high shock resistance.
TiN adds an as-deposited
hardness of approximately 80 HRC whilst TiCN coatings boost hardness to 90
HRC. |
